The highways are good now. Jaipur to Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, all smooth. So a sedan works for two people with light bags.
For families, take the Innova Crysta. Long days in the back seat are kinder in it. Going to Jaisalmer or into the desert? A Fortuner handles the rougher stretches better. Groups of 9 or more should look at a Tempo Traveller. And if it's a honeymoon or a business trip, the luxury sedans are there.

October to March is the season. Pleasant days, cold desert nights. April to June is hot, really hot, but hotels are cheaper and the forts are empty. Monsoon (July to September) turns Udaipur and Mount Abu green. Jaisalmer? Skip it in May. Trust us on that one.
